Q: What do you do with puppies during the 8 weeks?
We spend time with them daily starting with handling very early on in the first week. We begin taking notes and ensuring we track behavioral patterns. By week 4 puppies are weaned and by week 5 they are getting daily outside time (weather permitting). We have regular interaction with the kids so that puppies learn what is acceptable socially when interacting. We do not train puppies to “fit” a family and only look for their natural inclinations on prey drive and family settings.
Q: What will my puppy come with?
Each puppy will get their first round of distemper vaccine, AKC (limited only) registration paperwork, Deworming, microchip, mom/litter scented blanket, food to go home, vaccine card, litter heath certificate from our veterinarian and a CVI for out of state travelers.
Q: Can I visit puppies or pick my own puppy?
No. We do not allow people to visit due to contractable diseases that can be incredibly dangerous to their health before they reach an appropriate age with a healthy immune system and initial vaccinations. We also do puppy placement based on temperament and prey drive testing to ensure they go to homes that fit the puppy just as much as the home desires them. Not every puppy will perfectly match every situation, but matching a high drive puppy to an active home will allow puppies to thrive in that environment versus as slow-paced puppy that desires more down time matched to a slower paced household. We do not guarantee success in each match because shortfalls can happen quickly with lack of training and behavior guidance.
Q: How can I get my Golden to hunt?
Any hunting dog regardless of the breed will require training and you cannot show up on opening day expecting a performing hunting dog. We highly recommend starting with the Pat Nolan program: “from the pup” up as it is inexpensive and gets both you and the puppy confident on what the order of expectations will be when retrieving. Many people invest anywhere from 600-900 dollars a month to build a good gun dog for about 4-8 months of training. Please have real expectations of your puppy.
Q: What if I need my puppy shipped to me or I have to meet somewhere?
We have a transporter we currently use, any cost to transport will be at the owners expense in addition the puppy price. At the time the puppy goes on transport then full price is due and ownership transfers at that time. Ultimately travel plans are up to the buyer to figure out. During pickup-weekend we will not travel for meetups unless we determine we have the time and it will need to be coordniated in advance.
Q: How many dogs do you own?
We own 5 dogs. Roy, Scarlett, Rosie, Rita and Millie. Millie was diagnosed with cancer, she sadly never made it into the breeding program (She is living her best life as a full-time family dog), and Roy has not yet met all the final health clearances at this time but should be ready this fall.
Q: Will you have your own stud?
Yes. We currently have Roy. He is out of a Titan x Rosie pairing who is currently training towards his Master Hunt (MH) Title. He has spent time becoming an amazing hunting professional with family companionship, he enjoys visits to nursing homes where we volunteer and has passed his Junior Hunt (JH) title. He has a clear DNA, OFA prelim passes on hips/elbows and passes on heart and eyes.

Q: How do you select your studs?
Currently we are resourcing our studs because we did not want to follow the trend of having a male with no proven self-value independent of their generational pedigree. We choose studs that have proven themselves and are well balanced, and fully complement the qualities in our females. They all have passing OFA hips/elbows, heart, eyes and DNA panel.
Q: Is Nomadic Reds always going to be in Alabama?
No. I am Active Duty in the Army and will be moving in the next year or so to Kansas. We have been in Alabama for 3 years for flight school and should be in Kansas for 4-5 years next.
